2011 Mazda CX-9 Reviews

With the 2011 Mazda CX-9, the "zoom-zoom" gang has cooked up a large SUV that won't disappoint drivers with sporty intentions.

This seven-seat SUV is available with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive and comes in three flavors: Sport, Touring, or Grand Touring. The tester that graced my presence was a Grand Touring with all-wheel drive.

That base price does include 20-inch wheels, leather-trimmed seats in the first and second rows, a tilt/telescope steering wheel, heated front seats, rain sensing wipers, a roof spoiler, blind-spot monitoring, ABS, roll stability control, fog lamps, an antiskid system, traction control, an auxiliary jack, a wireless cell phone link, keyless entry and starting, and a trip computer.
The 2011 Mazda CX-9 ranks 1 out of 24 Affordable Midsize SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 52 published reviews and test drives of the Mazda CX-9, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

Reviewers say the "2011 Mazda CX-9" manages to thread the needle: it’s a seven-seat SUV that’s actually fun to drive.
The major downside to the "Mazda CX-9" is its price: even among seven-seat SUVs, it’s a little high. Other seven-seat crossovers stand out by offering features the CX-9 can’t match.

The Mazda CX-9 is available in three trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. The "base" CX-9 comes well equipped with standard 18-inch wheels, power moonroof, heated mirrors, three-zone automatic climate control, 8-way power adjustable driver's seat, Bluetooth compatibility, side-impact air bags, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control System (TCS) and Roll Stability Control (RSC).

Upgrading to the Mazda CX-9 Touring trim level yields available power opening and closing rear liftgate, advanced keyless entry, 4-way power adjustable front seats, Bose audio and a backup camera.
The premium trim level designated by the Grand Touring moniker delivers upgraded 20-inch wheels, Xenon headlamps, halogen fog lamps, rain-sensing windshield wipers, driver's seat memory and available rear-entertainment system, DVD-based navigation and the Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) System.
FWD is standard and yields 16 city, 22 highway estimated MPG.

Standard features on all Mazda3 models include power adjustable door mirrors, height and reach adjustable steering wheel, air-conditioning, power front windows, remote central locking, driver’s seat with height and lumbar adjustment, and a radio/CD player with four speakers, plus MP3 capability and an AUX jack for hooking up MP3 devices.

Depending on grade, the Mazda3 adds features like a Bluetooth® interface, a Bose® premium surround sound system, automatic dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, keyless entry and start system, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, rear parking sensor system, heated windscreen, and a rain and light sensor system. Mazda is strengthening its Mazda3 line-up with the addition of an updated Euro 5 diesel engine to the range, now with a six-speed manual transmission.

The 1.6-litre engine produces 85kW/115ps at 3,600rpm and 270Nm of torque across a wider engine speed range of 1,750-to-2,700rpm.

On the outside, the second-generation "Mazda3" boasts a new sporty exterior design. According to Mazda it is aerodynamically highly efficient, with one of the segment’s lowest drag coefficients (0.30 Cd for the hatchback).

Besides the updated MZ-CD 1.6, the diesel line-up also offers the powerful yet frugal MZR-CD 2.2 in two derivatives. The Standard Power version produces 110kW/150ps at 3,500rpm and 360Nm of torque between 1,800 and 2,600rpm. The High Power version delivers 136kW/185ps at 3,500rpm and 400Nm between 1,800 and 3,000rpm.

The petrol line-up’s entry-level engine is the lively MZR 1.6 with intake manifold fuel injection and a five-speed manual transmission producing 77kW/105ps at 6,000rpm and 145Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The MZR 2.0 DISI direct-injection petrol comes with Mazda’s unique stop/ start ‘i-stop’ system as standard. This engine delivers 111kW/151ps at 6,200rpm and 191Nm at 4,500rpm and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Completing the engine line-up is the the high-performance MZR 2.3 DISI turbo direct-injection petrol of the Mazda3 MPS superhatch producing 191kW/260ps at 5,550rpm and 380Nm of torque at 3,000rpm. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard.

Depending on grade, the Mazda3 adds features like a Bluetooth interface, a Bose premium surround sound system, automatic dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, keyless entry and start system, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, rear parking sensor system, heated windscreen, and a rain and light sensor system.

Every Mazda3 features dynamic stability control with a traction control system, as well as ABS and brake assist. Mazda is strengthening this successful line-up even further with the launch of an updated Euro 5 compliant 1.6-litre MZ-CD common-rail diesel engine, now with a six-speed manual transmission. It produces 85kW/115ps at 3,600rpm and 270Nm of torque across a wider engine speed range of 1,750-to-2,700rpm.

2011 Mazda RX-8 Reviews

While continuing to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the worlds best-selling roadster, the Mazda MX-5, Mazda UK is saying goodbye this autumn to a very different, although equally iconic sportscar in its model line-up " the rotary-engined, four-seater Mazda RX8.

enthusiastic drivers have purchased an 2011 Mazda RX-8 in the UK, won over by its truly exhilarating drive, fascinating super-smooth rotary engine and many unique features, combined with everyday reliability and practicality-- comments Mark Cameron, Sales Director, Mazda UK.

Powered by an improved version of the unique 231ps twin-rotor engine, the latest car delivers a heightened experience with faster steering, chassis and engine responses, more refinement, more equipment and even greater value.

2011 Mazda RX-8 R3 is the ultimate expression of Mazdas DNA, demonstrating our brands determination to do things differently.

The uniquely high-revving (up to 9,000rpm) RENESIS engine of the Mazda RX8 R3 is evolved to deliver sharper responses.

The interior of the 2011 Mazda RX-8 R3 features new Recaro sports seats in the front, a new-style steering wheel with audio controls, Bluetooth connectivity and cruise control.

Mazda dealers are currently offering 2011 Mazda RX-8 buyers a finance package available for retail sales only, until 30 September 2010, with no deposit required and typical 5.9% APR-- finance on Mazda Conditional Sale and Mazda Personal Contract Purchase up to 36 months.
The 2011 Mazda RX-8 ranks 3 out of 5 Affordable Sports Cars. The 2011 Mazda RX-8 has impressive handling dynamics and a roomy backseat, but loses points for its lack of low-end torque and fuel-thirsty, high-maintenance rotary engine.

In a class overrun by tiny roadsters and not-so-sporty sports cars, the Mazda RX-8 is a breath of fresh air. Test drivers report that the "2011 Mazda RX-8" performance faults spoil the fun. Though the 2011 Mazda RX-8 is powered by a rotary engine that weighs less than a traditional internal-combustion engine and generates a high rate of horsepower with little displacement, it requires constant maintenance.

The heart of the "Mazda RX-8" is its high-revving, 1.3-liter rotary engine called the Renesis. Current Mazda RX-8

The Mazda RX-8 is a four-seat coupe with a pair of rear-hinged "suicide" doors that ease access to the rear seats. Every RX-8 is powered by a 1.3-liter twin rotary engine, with an output that depends on the transmission. Used Mazda RX-8 Models--Introduced for 2004, the Mazda RX-8 heralded the return of the rotary-powered sports car to the United States after a near decade-long hiatus. Initially, the RX-8's automatic transmission was a four-speed unit.

2010 Mazda6 reviews

With a few well-established vehicles dominating the midsize sedan segment, and numerous likable competitors trying to unseat them, it's tough for any particular vehicle to stand out. However, the handsome Mazda 6 has something most competitors don't: charisma.
For the new second-generation 6, Mazda has enlarged the car's dimensions while still retaining much of the original model's handling panache. Depending on your needs, either generation could make for a solid midsize sedan choice.

The four is paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic, while the V6 is only available with a six-speed automatic.

The 6 is available in seven trim levels: i SV, i Sport, i Touring, i Touring Plus, i Grand Touring, s Touring Plus and s Grand Touring. Base models are respectably equipped, while higher trim levels come with such niceties as alloy wheels, xenon headlights, Bluetooth connectivity, dual-zone automatic climate control and an audible blind-spot monitoring system. Visually, the current 6 is no wallflower, with a distinctive face and front fender flares that recall Mazda's RX-8 sports car. There are a few downsides to the new Mazda 6. The current, second-generation Mazda 6 debuted for the 2009 model year. Launched for the 2003 model year, the first-generation Mazda 6 was initially available only as a sedan, while a four-door hatchback and a wagon joined the lineup for 2004. The Mazda 6 i was powered by a reasonably gutsy 160-hp four-cylinder engine mated to either a manual or an automatic transmission. The s model upped the performance ante with its 3.0-liter V6 -- also available with either a manual transmission or an automatic -- though this engine lagged behind the bigger V6s in competing models.
With power accessories, cruise control and pleasant cloth upholstery, even base models were reasonably well equipped. In reviews, we praised the original "Mazda 6" for its edgy, handsome design and stylish if somewhat low-budget interior. Our enthusiast editors particularly enjoyed the Mazdaspeed 6, a turbocharged, all-wheel-drive variant of the Mazda 6 sedan that was only offered in 2006 and 2007. Boasting 278 hp, a mandatory six-speed manual transmission and sports-car-like handling, this steroidal sedan never caught on with American consumers-- In 2005, a six-speed automatic replaced the five-speed unit on V6 models. For 2006, four-cylinder cars received an upgraded five-speed automatic in place of the old four-speed, and all Mazda 6 models were treated to minor styling updates. Not much changed for this generation's final year, though Mazda discontinued the wagon body style.

The Mazda 6 replaced the forgettable 626. Early 626 models were celebrated for their European styling and emphasis on performance, but in later years, they slipped into midsize sedan oblivion as Mazda took the car mainstream.
The 2010 Mazda Mazda6 ranks 11 out of 21 Affordable Midsize Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 21 published reviews and test drives of the Mazda Mazda6, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

Shoppers looking for a sporty, sexy midsize sedan with an affordable price tag should consider the Mazda6 – but go easy on the options. The 2010 Mazda6 is one of the few cars that should be on it. Sure, no four-door midsize car can truly be sports-car-sexy, but the 2010 Mazda6 comes close. The "2010 Mazda6 isn’t perfec"t. Higher trim levels have some of the nicest materials in the segment – but can cost so much that, really, you might as well buy an entry-level luxury car instead. But in a field crowded with look-alike, drive-alike family sedans, the Mazda6 stands out for its sharp styling and sporty driving dynamics.

The Nissan Altima is another sporty alternative. In the current market, most midsize cars are available at some discount. Redesigned just last year, the 2010 Mazda6 is still a fairly new sight on American roads, and Mazda has changed almost nothing about the car for the new model year. Navigation isn't available on most Mazda6 trim levels.

The bottom line: The 2010 Mazda6 is a thoroughly average car in a boring segment, but a couple of tech features keep it from total mediocrity.

The 2010 Mazda6 is yet another entrant among a class that appeals to comfort, reliability, and economy, yet Mazda tries to differentiate itself by giving its cars a slightly more sporting character. We set out to see if Zoom Zoom is part of the Mazda6's DNA.

But we weren't off to an auspicious start, as our 2010 Mazda6 was in i Touring Plus trim, which means a four-cylinder engine under the hood and a five-speed automatic transmission. There are seven trim levels for the Mazda6, a slightly bewildering array, and each one comes with a specific transmission and engine. Want the six-speed manual?

The interior features a quality look, but so do the cabins of most competing midsize sedans. As for Zoom Zoom, the Mazda6's moderate 170 horsepower and 167 pound-feet of torque sounded more appropriate for mileage over speed. Definitely more Zoom, than Zoom Zoom, but pretty typical behavior for the class of car coupled with this type of engine.
Topping out at five gears, the automatic transmission is a little primitive, lacking a tall gear to maximize economy at freeway speeds.

2010 Mazda5 reviews

The “Mazda 5” could be an alternative to another type of vehicle: the compact crossover. There are, of course, drawbacks to the Mazda 5's smaller size. Notably, the small third-row seat is suitable only for children, and that's only if you scoot up the sliding second-row captain's chairs. The Mazda 5 also seats a maximum of six, one less than regular minivans. The Kia Rondo is close to the Mazda 5 in design and concept, though it has traditional rear doors.

The “2010 Mazda 5” is a six-passenger small minivan available in Sport, Touring and Grand Touring trims. Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, full power accessories, keyless entry, automatic climate control, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, driver seat height adjustment, and a six-speaker stereo with auxiliary audio jack and steering-wheel controls. The Grand Touring adds automatic xenon headlights, automatic wipers, leather upholstery, heated front seats and Bluetooth.

In performance testing, a Mazda 5 Grand Touring went from zero to 60 mph in 10 seconds, which is a bit slower than most minivans and compact crossovers. Fuel economy for the automatic-equipped 5 is 21 mpg city/27 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined.

Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags and three-row side curtain airbags. With the third-row seat folded flat, 44.4 cubic feet of luggage space are available.

The 2010 Mazda Mazda5 ranks 5 out of 7 Minivans. This ranking is based on our analysis of 53 published reviews and test drives of the Mazda Mazda5, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

With three rows of seating, sporty handling and excellent safety scores, the Mazda5 is definitely worth a look.

The Mazda5 is the mini-est minivan. The Mazda5's small size means that it handles well, but is short on passenger space. If you need more passenger and cargo room, and want an all-around more comfortable interior, check out the Honda Odyssey. It's a large wagon with three rows of seats, so it doesn't have the Mazda5's sliding doors.

Our 2010 Mazda5 Touring arrived sporting a price tag of $22,480 and a hue we’ll henceforth refer to as press car red. The Mazda5 is based on the widely praised compact Mazda3 chassis, a solid contender for hot hatch value.

Leather, satnav and DVD entertainment are available in Limited trim. With segments busting left and right, the Mazda5 creates its own niche somewhere between compact wagon and minivan. It’s got three rows of seats, but only seats six. The middle row folds flat as well, leaving room for bikes or surfboards up the side.
Knowing the 5 is based on the Mazda3 chassis, we came in with high expectations. Regarding the chassis: satisfaction accomplished. Excluding sportwagons, the Mazda5 is the best handling people mover we’ve ever piloted. Essentially, it drives like a well-sorted budget hot-hatch, begging you to chuck it harder into the next turn.

At idle the engine sounds grumbly and the power steering sounds like the Power Loader from Aliens. Unlike some four bangers, the engine note doesn’t improve with speed.

The market is thick with driver-friendly, quick-shifting, rev-matching paddle-actuated six or seven speed automatic transmissions. The Mazda5′s five-speed slushbox is not among them. 1,000 Hooniverse Points, right there.
The 153hp 2.3L four-pot works hard getting the Mazda5 to do anything but plod.

2010 Mazda CX-9 review

The 2010 Mazda CX-9 is a large seven-passenger crossover SUV that's available in three trim levels: Sport, Touring and Grand Touring. Stepping up to the Touring version adds heated mirrors, leather upholstery (for front- and second-row seats) and heated power front seats. Fuel economy is slightly below average, though, at an EPA-estimated 16 mpg city/22 mpg highway and 18 mpg in combined driving for front-wheel-drive models.

All-wheel-drive CX-9s drop by 1 mpg across the board
Standard safety equipment for all 2010 Mazda CX-9s includes antilock disc brakes with brake assist, stability control with a rollover sensor, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and active head restraints. An optional rearview camera is available on Touring and Grand Touring models, while a blind-spot warning system is standard on the Grand Touring.

A reworked split-lid center console bin improves access, and a redesigned steering wheel facilitates easier Bluetooth, audio and cruise control operation. The CX-9's second- and third-row seats can easily accommodate normal-size adults.

Like many large crossovers, the 2010 Mazda CX-9 provides a comfortable ride for long road trips. Surprisingly, the CX-9 also performs admirably on curvy roads.

The 2010 Mazda CX-9 ranks 5 out of 10 Affordable Large SUVs. For an SUV with plenty of room and a little zoom, check out the Mazda CX-9.

The 2010 Mazda CX-9 is an anomaly in the large SUV class, thanks to its curvy design and performance that comes with a touch of zoom-zoom. Reviewers love its attractive exterior, nimble performance and safety features. If you like the CX-9, compare it to other large crossovers like the GMC Acadia and Ford Flex. For 2010, the CX-9 gets a slight refresh. Mechanically, the CX-9 is pretty much unchanged.

2010 Mazda CX-7 Overview

The 2010 Mazda CX-7. The changes add up to a great value equation -- the Mazda CX-7 is a great family SUV with cool styling and a sporty driving experience.

For 2010, the Mazda CX-7 boasts new styling and a new base engine. Mazda has addressed this concern with the new model -- the 2010 Mazda CX-7 starts at $2,350 less than the 2009 model. Though the Mazda CX-7 is improved, it still isn't perfect. The Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 also offer plenty of cargo space, and the RAV4 even boasts an optional third row.

The 2010 Mazda CX-7 comes in three trim levels -- the new SV base model, Sport, Touring and Grand Touring -- with a new 2.5-liter base engine and an optional turbocharged four-cylinder

The turbocharged 244-hp 2.3-liter engine is still available, and this year Mazda raised the turbo engine's fuel economy a bit by making a few engineering tweaks.
Alas, none of these changes address one of the CX-7's more notable drawbacks -- cargo capacity and rear passenger room.
The 2010 Mazda CX-7 is a midsize five-passenger crossover SUV available in four trim levels i SV, i Sport, s Touring and s Grand Touring.

The well-equipped base i SV trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, full power accessories, cruise control, a six-way manually adjustable driver seat, a tilt-telescoping steering wheel and a four-speaker CD stereo with an auxiliary audio jack. The i Sport adds privacy-tint rear glass, a leather-wrapped steering wheel/gearshift knob and Bluetooth connectivity.

The s Touring model adds a turbocharged engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust outlets, leather upholstery, an eight-way power driver seat, heated front seats and a rear cargo cover. The top-of-the-line s Grand Touring features 19-inch alloy wheels, automatic xenon headlights, foglights, rain-sensing wipers, a sunroof, heated exterior mirrors, automatic climate control, a navigation system, keyless ignition/entry, a rearview camera, electroluminescent gauges, distinct leather upholstery, driver seat memory settings, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a four-way power passenger seat and an upgraded Bose audio system with satellite radio and a six-CD changer.

It's paired to a five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. The i SV and i Sport are front-wheel-drive only, while the s Touring and s Grand Touring can be had with either front- or all-wheel drive. In normal driving situations, the AWD system routes 100 percent of the engine's power to the front wheels. Fuel economy estimates from the EPA for the new 2.5-liter engine are 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined for a FWD model.

Antilock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags come standard on all trim levels. In crash testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2010 Mazda CX-7 did great, garnering a top five-star rating in both front and side collisions. In our own braking testing, the CX-7 s performed excellently for a compact crossover, with fade-free stops from 60 mph in just 113 feet.

Ample hip- and headroom keep CX-7 passengers comfortable, even with all five seats occupied. For more Interior Features information, see our Specifications page.
When it comes to handling and braking performance, the 2010 Mazda CX-7 lives up to Mazda's sporty reputation.

2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata Sports Cars

The 2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata Sports Cars. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a dream, especially for sports car enthusiasts on a budget. Many test drivers even assert that the Mazda Miata is the best sports car available at this price point.

It doesn't trump the "Mazda Miata" in terms of handling, but most affordable sports car shoppers will still find it plenty satisfying.

Mazda MX-5 Miata
The soft top Mazda Miata is available in three trims: Sport, Touring and Grand Touring. The power retractable hardtop is available in two: Touring and Grand Touring.

The 2010 Mazda Miata continues the original formula of light weight, engaging driving dynamics, simplicity and, above all, fun. The power-retractable hardtop model weighs a bit more, but in return it grants extra top-up security and noise reduction. Cars like the Ford Mustang and Mini Cooper convertibles offer many creature comforts and plenty of personality, but they can't match the 2010 Mazda Miata's simplicity and agility. For a fun, zippy and affordable roadster that provides plenty of top-down enjoyment, the Mazda Miata is the best out there. For Pricing information, see our Pricing page.

The 2010 "Mazda MX-5 Miata" is a two-seat roadster that is available with either a soft top or power-retractable hardtop (PRHT). It is offered in three trim levels, from the base Sport model to the Touring and range-topping Grand Touring variants. In Sport trim, standard features include 16-inch alloy wheels, a black vinyl convertible top with a glass rear window, air-conditioning, cloth seats, a six-speaker sound system with a CD/MP3 player and an auxiliary input jack, a height-adjustable driver seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and power windows and mirrors.

The Grand Touring steps up with the choice of a cloth black or beige top, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated seats, a seven-speaker Bose audio system and silver interior accents. The PRHT models are identically equipped but are only offered in Touring and Grand Touring trim.

Most options are grouped in numerous packages. Touring and Grand Touring models can increase the Mazda Miata already nimble handling with the Suspension package (only available with a manual transmission), which includes a sport-tuned suspension with Bilstein shocks and a limited-slip differential. The Grand Touring qualifies for the Premium package that features stability control, keyless ignition/entry, xenon HID headlights, Bluetooth and satellite radio.
The 2010 Mazda Miata is powered by 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 167 hp (158 with the automatic transmission) and 140 pound-feet of torque. Sport models come standard with a five-speed manual transmission while Touring and Grand Touring models receive a 6th gear. Fuel economy is also impressive at an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city/28 mpg highway and 24 mpg in combined driving for the five-speed manual.

As with previous Mazda Miata cockpits, the latest version features simple and legible gauges along with user-friendly and well-placed controls.

Drivers with less sporting intentions will likely find the 2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata easy to live with and comfortable for long stints in either top-up or top-down mode.

2010 Mazda RX-8 Review

The heart of the Mazda RX-8 is its high-revving, 1.3-liter rotary engine called the Renesis. This, along with balanced suspension tuning, sharp steering and a svelte 3,000-pound curb weight, makes the rear-wheel-drive "Mazda RX-8" one of the best-handling cars on the market. Current Mazda RX-8
The Mazda RX-8 is a four-seat coupe with a pair of rear-hinged "suicide" doors that ease access to the rear seats. Every Mazda RX-8
is powered by a 1.3-liter twin rotary engine, with an output that depends on the transmission. There are three trim levels available: Sport, Grand Touring and R3. Even the base car comes well equipped with 18-inch wheels, performance tires, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a six-speaker CD stereo with an auxiliary audio jack. The Grand Touring gets a limited-slip rear differential, automatic xenon headlights, a power driver seat, memory functions, heated seats, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, keyless ignition/entry, a Bose stereo, Bluetooth and a navigation system. The R3 is a high-performance variant packing 19-inch wheels, an aggressively tuned suspension, Recaro sport seats, exterior body modifications and some of the other trims' high-tech convenience features.

The rotary engine requires high engine speeds to make serious power, but the delivery is virtually vibration-free and noise levels are subdued. Used Mazda RX-8 Models
Introduced for 2004, the Mazda RX-8 heralded the return of the rotary-powered sports car to the United States after a near decade-long hiatus. Initially, the Mazda RX-8 automatic transmission was a four-speed unit.

The 2010 Mazda RX-8 garners a lot of praise for its superb handling dynamics and roomy backseat, but loses points for having insufficient power and a fuel-thirsty, high-maintenance rotary engine.

Distinguishing itself among competitors, the 2010 Mazda RX-8 features a one-of-a-kind "suicide door" design, roomy backseat and impressive handling. Test drivers, however, report that faults with the 2010 Mazda RX-8 performance spoil the fun. The rotary engine that makes this car unique is its biggest liability, however. The 2010 Mazda RX-8 is offered in four trims: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring and R3.

New Mazda shinari

The distinctive front fenders of the Mazda SHINARI represent the further evolution of the prominent fenders introduced on the RX-8.

In the interior, Mazda Design has created the 'ultimate athletic space' focused on linking ergonomics with basic mechanical functions. Elements of the "Mazda SHINARI" design are likely to find their way into Mazda's future passenger cars, including an RX-8 successor.

Working within tight styling confides, Mazda itself have long been searching to find their design path. Maeda says as he introduces latest creation, the Mazda SHINARI.

Some might argue that Japanese Mazda in fact beaten the Europeans to the punch with a the configuration concept citing Mazda’s RX-8 is a four-door coupe. The Mazda SHINARI four-door design is visually and functionally more in line with the premium European counterparts.
Capturing the powerful forces of nature through the vehicle’s sheetmetal and glass, the Mazda Mazda SHINARI concept is assembled to convey the harmonous shaping of high-strength materials. Translating into the Mazda SHINARI design philosophy is the short, curvy snout of the Mazda RX-8 as well as the Mazda 6-style roof arching between the A and C-Pillars. So eloquently expressing speed on the outside, the interior arrangement of the Mazda SHINARI succeeds in reinforcing the car’s design theme. "In the Mazda SHINARI’s Sport mode, the driving characteristics of the car changes unlocking performance settings including the paddle shifters". Unlike concept vehicles like the Nagare and Furai, there appears to be a deeper production car focus in play for the Mazda SHINARI concept study. This vehicle might be the unique identity Mazda has long been seeking in future road-going cars.

2010 Mazda Shinari

When Mazda invited us to Milan to see its new concept car, we knew it must be something important. Normally concept cars get their 15 minutes of fame at an auto show, and then it's off to the next press conference to see what the following automaker will introduce. Not so with Mazda's latest styling endeavor. The Japanese automaker wanted our full and undivided attention, with the center of international design and fashion in Italy as a fitting backdrop.

The Shinari concept, which roughly translates to "resistance to being bent," will serve as a the basis for Mazda's new design language, and many of the styling cues will make it to future production vehicles. That means that the Shinari will essentially affect the design of every vehicle coming from the Japanese automaker for the next several years. An important car for Mazda? You bet.

Mazda 3 recall

Mazda 3 recall

Mazda Motor Corp. has recalled 215,000 Mazda3 and Mazda5 sedans because they can experience a sudden loss of power steering while the car is being driven, increasing the risk of a crash, federal safety regulators said Tuesday.

The Mazda recall involves model year 2007-2009 Mazda3 and Mazda5 vehicles built from April 2007 through November 2008. This recall announcement comes on the same day that GM announced a recall of 250,000 crossover vehicles worldwide.

Mazda is recalling more than 300,000 Mazda3 and Mazda5 sedans and vans in North America to fix problems with the power-steering system that could lead to a crash, a problem the automaker addressed in Japan a year ago.

The Japanese automaker told the government the recall involves model year 2007-2009 Mazda3 and Mazda5 vehicles built from April 2007 through November 2008

Mazda MX-5 Miata review

When the Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster debuted for 1990, this snazzy little convertible was an instant hit. Buyers lined up outside Mazda dealerships and gladly paid well over sticker price for the fetching new Miata.

Though the initial mania has long since faded, the Mazda Miata continues to be a very popular convertible. Today's third-generation car continues the trend. Current Mazda MX-5 Miata

The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a two-seat convertible powered by a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine good for 167 horsepower. The Miata is available in three trims: Sport, Touring and Grand Touring. It's available on all Miatas but the Sport. Used Mazda MX-5 Miata Models

The current Mazda MX-5 Miata dates back to 2006 when it was completely redesigned. Initially, the lineup consisted of six trim levels: Club Spec, Base, Touring, Sport, Grand Touring and Third Generation Limited Edition. For '07, equipment was reshuffled into four trims -- SV, Sport, Touring and Grand Touring -- and the limited edition was discontinued. That year also saw a 5-hp drop for cars with the automatic transmission. The second-generation Mazda Miata was originally powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 140 hp and 119 pound-feet of torque. For 2001, horsepower was bumped up to 155 and the Special Edition's six-speed manual became optional on the Miata LS. The original Mazda Miata roadster of 1990 offered one 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine (116 hp, 100 lb-ft of torque), one five-speed manual transmission and three colors: red, white and blue. Detail improvements saw the Miata through its first several years, with revised option packages, more power (the engine grew to 1.8 liters and 128 hp for '94) and stunning M-editions (special paint colors, a tan top, tan leather interior and 15-inch BBS wheels).

The 2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata ranks 1 out of 5 Affordable Sports Cars. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a dream, especially for sports car enthusiasts on a budget. Not surprisingly, the Miata is one of Car and Driver's "10Best."

Many test drivers even assert that the Miata is the best sports car available at this price point.
Other Sports Cars to Consider
It doesn't trump the Miata in terms of handling, but most affordable sports car shoppers will still find it plenty satisfying.

2011 Mazda 2

Now you can add the 2011 Mazda 2 to that list of price-conscious hatchbacks. On the plus side, the Mazda 2 is quite sporty to drive, and indeed this is one area where Mazda is quite proud of its new entry-level car. The list of standard and available features for the Mazda is quite short, too.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options

The 2011 Mazda 2 is a five-passenger, four-door subcompact hatchback that is available in two trim levels -- Sport and Touring. The Sport comes standard with 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, air-conditioning, full power accessories, a tilt steering wheel and a four-speaker CD/MP3 audio system with an auxiliary input jack.

The EPA estimates fuel economy at 28 mpg city/35 mpg highway for the manual transmission and 27/33 mpg for the automatic.

Standard safety features for the 2011 Mazda 2 include antilock brakes (discs in front/drums in rear), front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and stability and traction control.

The 2011 Mazda 2's interior is comparable to other hatchbacks in this economical price range. For more Interior Features information,

Typset-confounding nomenclature aside, the Mazda2 is exactly what you’d expect: A smaller companion to the automaker’s tremendously successful Mazda3. Credit both Ford and Mazda for reaping the cost benefits of platform sharing without making two badge-engineered twins. Unlike the Fiesta, the Mazda is available in just two trim grades with only an automatic transmission on the options chart. Mazda isn’t aiming for the premium subcompact market Ford wants to tackle, so luxury features are relatively limited. Finding inner peace

Mildly modified from the outgoing world-market Mazda2, the new car’s inner trappings should be familiar to those with experience behind the first generation Mazda3. Buy a bigger car. Mazda carefully selected nicely grained low-sheen interior materials. The early production test cars we sampled in Montreal felt exceptionally well screwed together, giving the interior a high quality feel lacking on most rivals.

Jenny Craig’s secret
The already light Mazda2 went on a diet for the new model year, shedding an impressive 240 lbs. for a new total weight of 2,306 lbs. with the base five-speed manual. Mazda looked high and low to drop pounds, shedding wiring, reworking the suspension and increasing the use of high tensile steel in the structure.
Mazda engineers put their effort into making the small car fun to drive and it shows through.

Highly tossable, the Mazda2 reveals its European-tested suspension settings. Mazda is relatively new to the electric steering game, but its first effort, the RX-8, set the bar high. Electric steering rarely works this well; Mazda ought to teach Ford and General Motors.

Mileage of 29/35 mpg city/highway for the five-speed and 27/33 mpg for the automatic isn’t bad, but it pales compared to the Fiesta’s 37 mpg (stick) and 40 mpg (automatic) ratings. That could be a major downfall for Mazda.

2011 Mazda 2 review

2011 Mazda 2 review

2011 mazda 2 initial overview first time in north america we've been introduced to the mazda2 many times before as versions have been scooting around the globe since 2007 the u s finally sees what it gets from a small mazda at the

Powering this nimble Mazda is a 1.5-litre 100hp engine delivering 98 lb-ft of torque, slightly below its competition. Off the tarmac the suspension holds well and your bottom and back appreciating it unlike in the Ford Fiesta.

2011 Mazda Driving dynamics

Being a Mazda, the electronics are top notch and driver safety and ease is priority. As a city car meant for short trips, the "Mazda 2 handles like a charm (unless you're feeding a large family and need more than the normal amount of space after a trip to Woolies). The rest of the interior however reminded us of the well designed Mazda 3", with adequate head and legroom, and an intuitive dash layout.

Another disappointment was its fuel consumption figures. For a vehicle of such miniscule dimensions, we expected something better than 8-litres per 100 km city and 6.7-litres per 100km highway in our manual Mazda 2 test model. Overall the Mazda2 looks to be a hit.
