The SS (Super Sport) models come with V-8 engines. The automatic SS models come with automatic cylinder deactivation, which cuts out four of the cylinders during level highway cruising to help boost fuel economy.


Rear-wheel drive is standard, of course, on all Camaro models.

This June, the Cruze mules will be retired, and for the first time, the Volt’s powertrain will be mated to the Volt body.

“The beauty of the Volt is the size of the battery,” affirms Posawatz. Weighing in at 400 pounds, the lithium-ion pack allows the Volt to travel as far as 40 miles on electric power. (Having a center tunnel in a front-drive car gives the Volt mule’s cabin the feel of one from a rear-wheel-drive vehicle.) Like most traditional electric cars, the Volt will recharge via a wall plug; the engine is simply to get you to your destination when the charge is depleted. Although the maximum total power output of the Chevrolet Volt battery pack is 16 kWh, the Volt only uses about 50 percent of the battery’s total power. The gas engine is never used to charge the battery; the engine turns a generator that directly feeds power to the electric motor. If the engine is revving at 2000 rpm and making 25 hp, the electric motor will be able to make only 25 hp. The Premium Trim package adds leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated front seats. The Rear Camera and Park Assist package adds a rearview camera and front and rear parking sensors.

The front-wheel-drive 2011 Volt is powered by an electric motor rated at 149 hp (111 kilowatts) and 273 pound-feet of torque. This motor draws power from a lithium-ion battery pack until the battery charge is 70 percent depleted. The battery can only be completely recharged through either a 120-volt or 240-volt outlet, but regenerative braking and the engine generator can replenish it slightly.

Safety features on the "2011 Chevy Volt" include antilock brakes, stability control, front side airbags, front knee airbags and full-length side curtain airbags.
The change-over from battery charge to generator power can be difficult to notice, though the pre-production Volts we've driven do have a disconcerting generator noise level; the engine revs regardless of engine speed.

Because it has a backup engine that generates electric power, the Chevrolet Volt does not have a limited range between charges like purely electric cars do.

The Chevrolet Volt is being introduced in limited markets at first. In 2011, the Volt will expand to other markets.

Years after General Motors introduced its hot-looking Camaro, the company has finally moved the Camaro convertible version of its popular muscle car to the front of the line.

It’s all fun and games at the Chevrolet stand during the Los Angeles Auto Show, where a bright-red Camaro convertible wears a Hot Wheels tattoo and show goers can get high-speed photos of themselves jumping for beach balls.

Although there will be no Hot Wheels special edition of the new Camaro convertible, we were told, the Camaro/Hot Wheels cross promotion will reap some concrete benefit: free Camaro convertible Hot Wheels toys provided by the El Segundo, Calif., toymaker, which created them especially for the auto show. The pairing of Hot Wheels with the drop-top Camaro is certainly appropriate.

The 2011 Camaro convertible certainly is an attractive toy, easily recalling Camaro’s vaunted ragtop past without looking retro or contrived.

The convertible will be available at Chevy dealerships in February 2011, with prices starting at $30,000.

2011 Chevrolet Aveo

The 2011 Chevrolet Aveo trails behind other cars in its class in most, if not all, aspects. Available as both a sedan and a five-door hatchback, the Aveo and Aveo5 offer the opportunity to get a new car at a used car price. With an MSRP of $11,965 for the sedan and $12,115 for the hatchback, pricing is the Aveo’s claim to fame.
Unfortunately, the Aveo doesn’t have much else going for it. The Aveo lacks safety features that competitors offer. Just keep in mind that the base Fiesta is priced a little over $1,300 more than the base Aveo.
Another vehicle to consider over the Aveo is the 2011 Honda Fit. Available only as a hatchback, it starts at nearly $2,800 more than the Aveo5. The base Fit also includes standard safety features like side-curtain airbags and anti-lock brakes -- which are unavailable in the base Aveo.
Base Versa sedans are available for $9,990, or nearly $2,000 less than a base Aveo. Both base model vehicles don’t offer much in the way of standard equipment, but the base Versa can be optioned with ABS, something unavailable in the base Aveo. The base Versa also comes standard with side curtain airbags, a safety feature unavailable on any Aveo model.

SEMA 2010-One of several Camaros on display at the Chevy

The Chevrolet Corvette has a certain friend named Jake, and Jake is making a special guest appearance at the SEMA show.
At SEMA, Jake will be plastered all over a 2011 Corvette Grand Sport in black, outside and inside. Certain Jake-logo parts will eventually come to market. For now, Jake's place is with the C6.R race teams and the SEMA show.

Outside the Jake Edition Concept, Jake can be found on the hood, fender, and beneath the hood. The Jake-logo wheel center caps and underhood blanket will be on sale at a later date.

The interior trim and racing pedal kits are sourced from the factory Chevy accessory catalog.

Jake has quickly become, to the Corvette Racing team, what the Cavallino Rampante is to Ferrari. Chevrolet is now recognizing the iconic icon with the 2011 Corvette Jake Edition Concept.

Chevy started with a Grand Sport coupe then set to work adding Jake-themed touches both inside and out. The black paint is offset nicely by the Competition Gray Z06 wheels and GT1 Championship Edition Jake-logo hood graphic. Those wheels also feature Jake center caps, as do the fenders.

Chevrolet Aveo may get a new name‎ ?

The 2011 Chevrolet Aveo, which made its production debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, may drop its name when it begins production in the United States.

GM’s North American President Mark Reuss said that Orion will become home to Chevrolet’s new small car and the Buick Verano compact sedan. GM never called the Chevy small car the Aveo in the release.

"Chevrolet Aveo" is currently the name for the Chevrolet subcompact import from South Korea. The name never has quite caught on even though it was on sale well before other competitors entered the segment, like Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris. Rick Kranz's column in Automotive News mentions the first crack in the wall: word from General Motor North American sales chief that the name Chevrolet Aveo remains in question. That saves money and increases profit if can also sell them under the same names, creating a worldwide identity.

In a story clear out of left-field, we've learned that Chevrolet may be considering dropping the "Aveo" name for the new model of its compact hatch.

In a shocking development, GM's President of North America, Mark Reuss, explains to Automotive News that the Aveo name is, as AN puts it, "difficult to pronounce and confuses customers." Sarcasm aside, GM no doubt realizes that the Aveo name doesn't resonate especially well with consumers thanks to sub-optimal perceptions of the current model (and all past models, for that matter).

Chevrolet HHR

A newcomer to the growing compact wagon scene is the Chevrolet HHR.
For shoppers searching for a versatile compact wagon that's also stylish, the HHR certainly merits consideration.
Current Chevrolet HHR
The Chevrolet HHR is a compact four-door wagon that shares its front-wheel-drive architecture -- and thus many of its driving characteristics -- with the Chevrolet Cobalt. Four trim levels are offered: LS, 1LT, 2LT and SS. A passenger version is available in all trims, and the two-seat panel van version comes in LS and LT trims.
The athletic SS comes with a turbocharged 260-hp 2.0-liter engine, a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels and special exterior and interior accents. All Chevrolet HHRs have antilock brakes, stability control and side curtain airbags as standard.
The Chevy HHR is available only with front-wheel drive, while several competitors offer all-wheel drive for enhanced foul-weather capability.
Used Chevrolet HHR Models
The HHR's sophomore year brought a little more power (the 2.2-liter four went from 143 to 149 hp while the 2.4-liter unit went from 172 to 175 hp. More standard features came on line for all HHR trims for '09, including antilock brakes, stability control and side curtain airbags.

Combining modern versatility with old-school styling, Chevy’s HHR is available as either a comfortable five-passenger wagon, or a versatile panel van. The Hyundai Elantra Touring offers more space than even the HHR Panel and starts out at about $2,700 less than the Chevrolet HHR. Likewise, the Toyota Matrix offers slightly more cargo space compared to the standard HHR and has a base price almost $2,000 cheaper. Buyers interested in the Chevrolet HHR Panel should also take a look at the Ford Transit Connect. Also designed as a utility vehicle, the Transit Connect gets worse highway gas mileage (it’s EPA-rated at 25 mpg compared to the HHR Panel’s 32 mpg), but makes up for it with a whopping 72.6 cubic feet more cargo space than the Chevrolet HHR Panel.
